Thirukkural translations in French (பிரெஞ்சு மொழியில் திருக்குறள் மொழிபெயர்ப்பு)

French is undoubtedly an international language hav- ing official status in at least 28 countries that include states in the African and North American continents. As far as the num- ber of French Thirukkural translations is concerned, it comes a distant second amongst all the European languages. If English renderings are more than 126, the number of French trans- lations is only 16. There may be translations gone unnoticed by this project team, not just in French but in many other languages as well. Covindassamy in the introduction to his French translation of the Thirukkural says that 18 translations had preceded his work. Details of two translations presented here could not be obtained, one being the 1857 translation by Nancy and the other by Latha Madhavan. One of the pop- ular and easily available translations of the Kural is that of Gnanaou Diagou, published by the Asian Educational Services, Delhi.
