Thirukkural translations in Konkani (கொங்கனியில் திருக்குறள் மொழிபெயர்ப்பு) |
|||||||||||||
Though Konkani has a considerable number of loan words derived from various Dravidian languages, it is essentially an In- do-Aryan language. The first translation of Thirukkural into Konk- ani was that of N. Purushothama Mallaya, former Secretary of the Konkani Bhasha Sabha, Kochi. He was inspired to take up the translation at the behest of late Ka. Naa. Subramanyam, the well-known Tamil scholar who authored many works including the Bharatiya Jnanpith publication “Tiruvalluvar and his Tiruk- kural”. Published in the year 2002, Mr. Purushothama’s maiden attempt was a complete translation of Thirukkural in Konkani verse. Though he has many literary publications to his credit, his effort to translate Thirukkural into Konkani stands tall amongst all rest. Subsequently, two more translations have appeared, the latest one being a translation by R.K. Rao in 2003, which incidentally was also published from Kochi. This work is avail- able in full as a PDF version on the internet (https://archive.org/ details/tirukkural0000rkra/page/n7/mode/2up). Earlier in 2007, Purushothama’s entire work made available on the net for Thiruk- kural translations in different languages (http://kuraltranslations. blogspot.com/).
